BUILT ENVIRONMENT
Skanska USA Building
Media Relations / Sustainability
Swedish-based construction giant Skanska USA Building retained Frause to increase awareness of the company’s brand, capabilities and projects. One of the main areas of focus for the company was their work in green building. In 2010, Skanska took on the tall order of being the first company to build a Living Building in the Pacific Northwest – the Bertschi science wing.
Solution
Frause collaborated with the design collective on media relations. Because the concept was so new, a major component of the work focused on communicating just what the Living Building program entailed. While many projects have been concepted and designed, none had been built before. Frause worked with Skanska to help tell the story of how this challenge was met and what the benefits were to the built community in the Pacific Northwest.
Outcomes/Results
Articles in Engineering News Record and the Daily Journal of Commerce took a deeper dive into the story of what it takes to build a Living Building. Frause also drafted an article on behalf of the project manager, which ran the Daily Journal of Commerce, which detailed the positive results on the built industry and supply chain. In October of 2010, Skanska was recognized as one of Washington State’s Top 50 Green Companies by Seattle Business magazine based on their work on Bertschi. Plans are currently in the works for the certification of the Bertschi science wing, which is anticipated to take place in February.
