ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT & TOURISM
Rio South Texas Economic Council
Message Development / Media Relations

The challenge was two-fold: 1)The newly formed Rio South Texas Economic Council (RSTEC) brought together economic development organizations throughout the four southernmost counties in Texas, all which had a long history of competing with each other verses collaborating to promote the region as a whole. For the first time these disparate municipalities and organizations needed to work together to promote a very diverse region that included border cities in Mexico. 2)Because it was a newly formed regional coalition, there was a lack of awareness of the region among businesses and site selection consultants.

Solution

Frause was hired to develop key messages and to launch RSTEC’s national media relations campaign. Messages promoting the region to prospective businesses and site selection consultants were developed. In addition, RSTEC members were trained to effectively deliver the messages when speaking to the media and in their business recruitment efforts. This was the first major initiative that brought all municipalities and organizations together to promote the region as a whole. Following the media development and training, Frause coordinated and led delegations on media tours in New York City, Dallas and Houston.

Outcomes/Results

Frause was able to secure meetings with editors and reporters at the following targeted national and regional media: The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Bloomberg Business Week, Inc., Forbes, The Dallas Morning News and the Houston Chronicle.
